BitTorrent - what is this thing?

Ok I know that most of you guys may know more than me about this topic, but as per some of my friends, there might be people who are hearing this term for the first time. So, for those friends, I dedicate this post :-)

BitTorrent - what's that? in one word, its a PROTOCOL for sharing files over the whole world via internet.

What makes it so different and.. erm.. famous? - BitTorrent is one of the most populer systems that has the peer to peer sharing facility.

Peer.. what? - Peer to Peer sharing. this means that in a network of people interconnected, everyone may have a piece of one large file, and then they exchange this parts of file so that everyone has a complete file.

The torrent network is quite huge and has almost every movie, games, software, music you could probably think of.
all you need to get started is a torrent file of the content you are looking for and this free tiny bit of software.
